The Efficacy of Trnsvaginal Sonosalpingography(TV-SSG) on Tubal Patency of Infertile Women

Abstract
There is tendency that infertility of tubal origin is increasing. Determining the patency of fallopian tube is one of the initial evaluating procedures in seeking the cause of infertility.
There are three available methods for tubal patency : tubal insufflation with carbon dioxide gas(Rubin test), hysterosalpingography(HSG) and laparoscopy. Rubin test is highly subjective, whereas HSG exposes the patient to ionizing radiation and
contrast
medium, Laparoscope need anesthesia and srugical intervention.
In the examination of the female genital tract, ultrasonography can be an alternative to HSG and laparoscopy.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of TV-SSG on tubal patency. Transvaginal sonosalpingography is physiological, easy to perform, safe, to cost-effective, non-invasive, and potentially more convenient when compaired with
other
other
conventional methods.
When the results of transvaginalsonosalpingography were compared with those of HSG, The results are as follows
1. The sensitivity and specificity of TV-SSG in this study were 100% and 93% respectively.
2. The overall accuracy of TV-SSG was 98%.
In conclusion, We believe that the accurate results make transvaginal sonosalpingography a promising screening and diagnostic technique in the evaluation of tubal patency.
